The results of evaluation of SIRT1 nRNA expression in blood after ingestion of black turmeric extract at 100 mg/day for 8 weeks showed a 21% increase in expression. This indicated that black turmeric enhances SIRT1 enzyme activity.
Furthermore, it was found to penetrate cell membranes and enhance intracellular SIRT1 activity. Nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN), which has been studied as an anti-aging substance, has been reported to increase NAD+ required for the enzymatic reaction of SIRT1. The simultaneous action of black turmeric and NMN was found to synergistically activate SIRT1. It was suggested that the combination of black turmeric and NMN acts for more effective anti-aging.
